Alexandria Democratic Committee Calls for Federal Workers Rights to Organize in Wake of Trump Executive Order

(May 4, 2026) The Alexandria Democratic Committee has passed a resolution condemning the Trump administration’s March 2025 executive order that seeks to weaken federal workers’ rights to organize and collectively bargain.

The resolution argues that the administration, through the Office of Personnel Management and related actions at federal agencies, is attempting an unprecedented rollback of longstanding labor protections guaranteed under the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978. ADC warns that efforts to terminate collective bargaining agreements and undermine federal unions threaten not only federal employees, but the broader labor movement and hard-won worker protections that benefit all Americans.

The resolution highlights the vital role federal workers play in keeping government functioning and expresses solidarity with unions and organizations, including the AFL-CIO and postal workers, that are actively challenging these actions. In response, the ADC pledged to publicly support affected workers, organize volunteers in solidarity efforts, assist with fundraising if needed, and call on elected officials to defend the rights of workers across Virginia.

The resolution was co-sponsored by David Paladin-Fernandez and Brian Benderson.
