Ten-Mile Bike Tour - Star-Spangled Banner Trail
9 am, Ten-Mile Bike Tour - Star Spangled Banner Trail. Participants will begin this ten-mile tour at one of two locations: Carlyle House Historic Park (121 North Fairfax Street) in Old Town Alexandria or Oxon Hill Farm (6411 Oxon Hill Road) in Oxon Hill, Md. Cyclists will learn about the impact of the War of 1812 from costumed interpreters and then cycle across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to the other historic site, as they learn how witnesses on both sides of the river observed and experienced wartime events. An optional two-hour 20-mile loop to Fort Washington departs from Oxon Hill Farm at noon and includes an interpretive program at the fort. The tours are free, but helmets, reservations, and a signed waiver are required. Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a participating adult. Fort Ward Park History Group Meeting
10 a.m. - noon, Fort Ward Park History Group meeting at Fort Ward Museum, 4301 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria. Workgroup members are recording family history, identifying features such as graves, documenting historical photographs including family and landscape images, and helping with other projects related to the history of the site and in particular, to the African-American community that existed at Fort Ward. R. E. Lee Camp Hall Museum Open to the Public
Noon - 2 p.m., R. E. Lee Camp Hall Museum open to the public, 806 Prince Street, Alexandria. During the Civil War, this Victorian home served as a hospital for the Union army and after the War, it became the hall for the R.E. Lee Camp #2 for the United Confederate Veterans. The museum houses a collection of Civil War artifacts, including Confederate uniforms, flags, and camp items and other artifacts of the 17th Virginia Infantry Regiment CSA. Alexandria Aces Host Jackson Dundon Night
5 p.m. - 11 p.m., Alexandria Aces Host Jackson Dundon Night, at the Frank Mann Field (behind Cora Kelly School, 3650 Commonwealth Ave., Alexandria). Family, friends and our collective community can come together as one to support the Dundon family of Kristin, Jimmy, Mason and Jackson as we cheer him on in battling his brain tumor. Silent auction and a special 'Bang the Blue Hit-A-Thon' for Jackson that will begin at 5:45 pm. For $20.00, people will get five at bats to help 'Bang the Blue' for Jackson. Former Washington Times reporter David Elfin will be on hand to sell and sign his book, "The Ultimate Washington Baseball Trivia Book.'
