Alexandria Hosts Special Citywide Event: Mayor Euille’s State of the City Address
9:00 am, Alexandria Hosts Special Citywide Event: Mayor Euille’s State of the City Address at The Station at Potomac Yard, 2801 Jefferson Davis Highway, Alexandria. Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille will deliver his annual State of the City Address, outlining the City's accomplishments and future challenges. Following the Mayor’s speech, residents are invited to tour The Station at Potomac Yard (both the fire station and residential housing), get a free H1N1 flu shot, find out about the 2010 Census, and participate in Alexandria’s campaign to obtain Google Fiber. The City will also have several other exhibits about City programs and services.

Join The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum, for a special book fair for kids on Saturday. Children’s publisher Usborne Books and Lyceum staff will make history fun at this event for kids and their parents! Admission is free. During this event, The Lyceum is offering family-oriented walking tours at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. These tours explore what life was like 200 years ago for everyday people in Alexandria. Participants will take part in role-playing as they find out what living and working in Alexandria was like at the dawn of the 19th century. Space is limited for the walking tours and the cost is $2 for ages 7 and older.
At the book fair, kids can become history sleuths on a scavenger hunt of The Lyceum and earn their own Museum Detective badge. Children will also enjoy a “Please Touch!” activity table where they can explore reproduction artifacts and try to match them with pictures of comparable objects from today.
